Mrs. Todesco ELA 7 19 September 2016 The First Day The Historical Fiction "The First Day" by Edward P. Jones takes place on Jew Jersey Ave. during early September. First, It tells a story of a young girl who is begging school today, but when she arrives at the school ( Seaton Elementary) her momma is arguing with the ladies at the desk. Momma and the little girl got rejected from the school because the school doesn't cover where they live. Momma takes the little girls hand and they proceed out the door. Momma stops at the steps watching all the people rush by quickly, she grasps the young girls hand and starts off to the new school. Then, for some reason the young girl didn't seem to see any off her friends walking to this new school. She doesn't mind that its a new school, but when she sees how crowded the halls were she knew it was scary. When I envisioned this part of the story I remember all those time when I was scared but my parents made me do it because they knew I would love it. When we get to this new school Momma asks the lady for help and she gladly does, but this thing Momma said was new to her she kinda got embarrassed. Her Momma cant read or write, she just wants her little girl to learn how because she is more privileged then Momma was at this age. Finally, Momma kneels down to her height and gently pets her face, she promised that she would be back by twelve. The moment she left over all the noises in hat hall, she could only hear her mothers footsteps on the hard cold tile floor. |
